1968 is widely acknowledged as the introduction of heavy metal, thanks to debut albums by legendary groups such as Iron Butterfly and Deep Purple. Now, more than 40 years later, metal is still alive and well, especially in Southern California, the launching pad for so many bands trading in sledge hammer-to-the-head blows. To celebrate this fact, Neurotic Records felt the time is right to offer up this latest look at the local metal scene and present So Cal Metal Meltdown.
This compilation features 2 tracks each by 7 local bands you certainly won’t find singing love songs on American Idol. There’s Whittier-based Throttle, Trash veterans Dia De Los Muertos, Temecula’s Swirl, veteran rockers On Bended Knee (OBK), The Mike Albert Group, led by the former Megadeth guitarist of the same name, Monterey Park’s Texas Death Start, and Krome, who represent Orange County.
With a plethora of individual group tours, ads in metal fanzines, promotions at online metal stations, and a carefully coordinated online/virtual marketing campaign, So Cal Metal Meltdown aims to detonate atomic awareness among denizens of metal everywhere!
